The Zuli Grind Vol. 1, No. 5

The Zuli Grind | August 20th, 2015

The summer months have been busy (and foggy) here in San Francisco. Foggy weather aside, summer is shaping up beautifully here at Zuli HQ. We’ve got a lot of fun updates for you in today’s Zuli Grind.

All of our Kickstarter and pre-orders are in route from China to homes around the country!

This is a huge milestone for us. Ben has been in China for the past two months and is set to return now that the manufacturing line is in a secure place and has produced a significant amount of Zuli Smartplugs.

A Look Back

We can promise you that our entire team has been working tirelessly for the last 18 months to deliver the best product experience. We didn’t do everything right the first time, but we definitely figured out a process.

We were ambitious in our initial timeline projections on Kickstarter. At the time, we wholeheartedly believed that we could deliver on our promise and ship in 7 months. As we progressed, it became very clear to us that in order for us to deliver a high quality product, we would not be able to achieve our initial timeline. Producing high quality product was our utmost priority.

To take a look at our 18 month timeline, visit our last Kickstarter post to see a breakdown of what, exactly, we were doing for those months.

Deep Dive

It’s been a fun ride so far and we’ve got a lot more exciting stuff coming up.  Now that we are shipping, we are starting to offer our followers as much information about the process of creating a smart home hardware product. We want to share this experience with you.

In order to share some of these more intimate stories and details, we have joined Medium. Our account on Medium is where we plan to take a deep dive into the processes of our startup and how we have gone about creating Zuli Smartplugs. Make sure you follow us there.

Read our first post, “Hard Facts: Challenges of a hardware startup.”

Check out Zuli in the App store!

The Zuli Smartplug app is now in the App Store and available to anyone who would like to download it. As users are getting their Smartplugs, we have started to see reviews come in on the app store. Take a look!

Taylor goes to…Milan?

Recently, Taylor joined Zuli partner SPD Smartglass and their CEO, Joseph Harary, at the USA Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015. Both participated in the Terrace Talk: “Sustainable Green Building Design using SPD SmartGlass and Intelligent Adaptive Control Systems.” It was a very quick trip for Taylor.

We wrote up an overview of Taylor’s portion of the discussion in our latest blog post. Read it to learn our thoughts on the future of energy efficiency in the home.
